One of the best ways to free your mind can be to simply pick up a pencil. Armed with nothing more than paper and pencil, your mind can become free to wander at will.

Some times when decisions have to made, the mind gets so confused and overloaded with all the options available that it seems to completely shut down in protest. It’s at times like this when your pencil can come to the rescue.

You could simply sit and doodle, just let your pencil find it’s way and do it’s own thing. Very often you’ll find the subconscious will come into play, and through your doodles it may reveal solution that your busy brain had not been able to show you.

Alternatively, you could try a little ‘guided’ writing. Again, just let your hand move with the pencil and write whatever comes through. Ignore your inner critic, don’t stop to think or correct your writing in any way…above all do not make any attempt to edit spelling, punctuation etc.

You will gain more benefit from your letting your pencil go with the flow, if you bear in mind that whatever your pencil produces is for your eyes only. Regard the result as a private coded message from your subconscious mind.

  • Are You Bored by Repetition?

Are you easily bored? Do you tire of constant repetition? Maybe you have learned that particular lesson and it’s time to move on, time to stretch your abilities.

Up to a point, repetition is a good thing, it reinforces learning, good behaviour and habits. But after a time, when we have totally absorbed the information and it has become deeply embedded, we may become frustrated, and feel the urge to seek more information, to find other challenges.

Don’t scold yourself, if you find that you have become bored by repetition, it could be a turning point, a sign that it is time for you to move forward. You have learnt and absorbed certain lessons and must now look further ahead, you can now advance your efforts.

It could be all to easy to remain in your comfort zone, but a little nagging inner voice whispers to you. Once again, like a siren your subconscious mind is calling out to you to sit up and take notice.

Is it time to revaluate your goals? Time to take the next step forward? You have proven to yourself that you have the ability to learn, that in itself is an accomplishment.

So sit down quietly, clear your mind, and map out where you want to go next. What is your ultimate goal? what is the next step? what more do you need to learn? where can you get the best advice?..meditate, ask your subconscious mind to help.

  • The Power of Your Pen

One of the most useful tools you can wield is a humble pen. The power of your pen can be formidable. A pen has the power to make friends or enemies and in times of stress and need, it can bring you hope and encouragement.

When faced with a problem, one of the best things you can do is to sit down with pen and paper to clarify the situation. Draw a line down the center of the page to make two columns, label one side Pro’s and the other side con’s. Now give a little thought to your problem, and list all the relevant facts you can think of under the appropriate heading.

When you have exhausted your lists, go back over each fact that you have listed. Ask yourself what you can do about each one. Make another list of all the possible actions that you could take. At this point, you may find it helpful to repeat the action and list more pro’s and cons against the possible solutions.

The more you repeat this exercise, the easier it will become. You’ll find that your subconscious mind will want to play along, and all manner of possible solutions will start to present themselves to you. If it’s possible, put your lists away for a while, and allow your subconscious more time work on your behalf. (under your pillow is always a good option, it allows the work to carry on without hindrance while you sleep). Sweet dreams :)
