Welcome back

Do you really want to quit that habit? So often people say that they would like to be able to give up a particular habit, but in reality they do not want to. Are you one of them?

Invariably the underlying problem is that the habit has become like a security blanket, and giving up the habit would be akin to being forcibly removed from your comfort zone.

What usually happens is that a feeling of insecurity sets in. What will I do without…? How will I cope?…How will I be able to…?

Well now, just how did you manage before you embarked on your habit? If you are honest with yourself you managed perfectly well, you only think that you didn’t.

Once again, it all comes back to your thoughts and your beliefs. Your thoughts and beliefs are what you need to change.

One of the quickest and easiest ways to stop a habit is to exchange it for a different more desirable, less harmful one. For instance, you could pop a peppermint in your mouth instead of chocolate, wine, or cigarettes. You could force yourself to raise a smile instead of a scowl.

At the same time, change your thoughts, try to switch your attention to something entirely different, think back to all the occasions when you’ve been perfectly content, when you’ve even been successful, without the help of your security blanket.

Have a little faith in yourself
