  • How Does Your Garden Grow?

How does your garden grow? Your mind and your body can be likened to a garden. What you choose to plant, what you feed it, and how you cultivate it will affect the outcome.

Do you plant seeds of love, inspiration and courage in your mind? Do you read positive inspirational books to encourage growth, love and abundance? Or do you favor hard luck stories, negativity and resentment which behave like weeds to stifle and strangle the growth of beauty? Do you play soothing, pleasant music, or prefer to listen to the loud and discordant?

It’s not only your mind, but your body also that needs to careful cultivation. Do you treat it with the respect it deserves? Do you feed it with nutrient rich foods? Do you ensure that it has enough rest, exercise and fresh air?

Try to be a little more aware of how all the contributing factors can make a difference to your life both mentally and physically, surely you want the best for yourself. Treat your mind and body with the love and respect it deserves.

  • Pick up a Pencil

One of the best ways to free your mind can be to simply pick up a pencil. Armed with nothing more than paper and pencil, your mind can become free to wander at will.

Some times when decisions have to made, the mind gets so confused and overloaded with all the options available that it seems to completely shut down in protest. It’s at times like this when your pencil can come to the rescue.

You could simply sit and doodle, just let your pencil find it’s way and do it’s own thing. Very often you’ll find the subconscious will come into play, and through your doodles it may reveal solution that your busy brain had not been able to show you.

Alternatively, you could try a little ‘guided’ writing. Again, just let your hand move with the pencil and write whatever comes through. Ignore your inner critic, don’t stop to think or correct your writing in any way…above all do not make any attempt to edit spelling, punctuation etc.

You will gain more benefit from your letting your pencil go with the flow, if you bear in mind that whatever your pencil produces is for your eyes only. Regard the result as a private coded message from your subconscious mind.

  • Switch Off

Sometimes it becomes necessary to literally switch off from negative outside influences. Too often we let the harmful vibes of others penetrate our aura.

Almost daily, directly and or indirectly we are bombarded by the anger invoked by others. If you find that you are susceptible and adversely affected by these unwanted influences, it is vital that you find ways to shield and protect yourself, and to be able to switch off immediately.

Deep breathing exercises can help you overcome tense, stressful influences. Whenever you have a few moments to yourself, you may find it helpful to rehearse this helpful breathing ritual…

…Take a few long deep breaths to relax and ground yourself..then begin to consciously watch your breath…

… On each in breath, say to you self … I am breathing in relaxation … feel the peace flow into and all around your body as you slowly relax..

…On each out breath, say to yourself … I am breathing out tension … exhale deeply and feel all the tension being expelled from your body.

If you make a habit of consciously breathing in this way at every opportunity, you will find that whenever a stressful occasion arises your breathing will automatically come to your aid.

  • What Will You Do Today?

    For A Friend

What will you do today? Do you ever stop to give your full thought to the day that lies ahead?

There is a thoughtful verse written by Helen Steiner Rice called ‘What will you do with this day that’s so new?’ It makes for some thoughtful meditation at the start of the day.

What Will You Do With This Day That’s So New?

As we start a new day
    untouched and unmarred,,
    Unblemished and flawless,
    unscratched and unscarred,
May we try to do better
    and accomplish much more
    And be kinder and wiser
than in the day gone before –
    Let’s wipe our slates clean
    and start over again,
    For God gives this privilege
    to all sincere men
    Who will humbly admit
    they have failed many ways
    But are willing to try
    and improve these “new days”
    By asking God’s help
    in all that they do
    And counting in Him
    to refresh and renew
    Their courage and faith
    when things go wrong
    And the way seems dark
and the road rough and long –
    What will you do
with this day that’s so new?
    The choice is yours–
    God leaves that to you!

  • Wish Upon a Star

star tarot Wish Upon a StarWhen you wish upon a star, it truly seems as though heavenly forces are being invoked. Indeed, there is something both mystical and magical involved in the process.

In tarot readings, the beautiful symbol of the star represents hope, inspiration and serenity. If you hold your gaze fixed firmly on the stars you will achieve spiritual help and guidance.

If you have access to a pack of tarot cards, take out the Star and hold the image in front of you. Alternatively, you can also search for, and download an image of the Star from the web.

Concentrate on the image before you… notice every detail… and feel yourself become one with the card….Allow your eyes to gently close and begin to breathe slowly and deeply…

Think of your wish…see the star shine above you… feel the spiritual forces as they radiate from the Star and surround you with love…visualize your wish as it become a reality…Hold on to this image as you give thanks to your Star.

You will feel uplifted and blessed, and can rest assured that help and guidance is on its way to you.

  • Go and Open the Door

    Image via Wikipedia
So often our mind seems to live behind a closed door. Why not open the door and see what is is beyond?

Instead of wishing and waiting for a miraculous change to occur in your life, open up the door of your mind take a fresh new look at life and re-discover the world.

Miroslav Holub, the Czech poet and immunologist, summed it up nicely in this poem ‘The Door.’

    Go and open the door.
    Maybe outside there’s
    a tree, or a wood,
    a garden,
    or a magic city.

    Go and open the door.
    Maybe a dog’s rummaging.
    Maybe you’ll see a face,
    or an eye,
    or the picture
    of a picture.

    Go and open the door.
    If there’s a fog
    It will clear.

    Go and open the door.
    Even if there’s only
    the darkness ticking,
    even if there’s only
    the hollow wind
    even if
    nothing
    is there,
    go and open the door.

    At least
    There’ll be
    A draught.

  • Opposites Attract

Opposites attract in more ways than one, but have you ever stopped to think a little further about that?

What and how we think plays an important part in our lives. If we constantly harbor negative thoughts, and continually concentrate on such things as lack, hurt, regret, and failure, then sure enough, that is exactly what you will attract into your life.

Why not then do the opposite, and attract the good things into our lives? It’s simply a case of paying a little more attention to our thoughts and turning them around into more pleasurable, positive thoughts.

If you begin to pay close attention to yourself, you will be become aware of, and catch yourself in the act of negative thought, speech and actions.

Now whenever this happens, consciously make an effort to think exactly the opposite. Try to form a picture in your mind of exactly the opposite and act as if the more pleasurable positive thought were true.

Practise swapping over your thoughts as often as you can, you will be pleasantly surprised at the changes that you will begin to see in your life as a result… when it comes to your thoughts… opposites really do attract.

  • Enter Your Spritual Garden

Enter your spiritual garden to escape from the hurly burly of life. There are times when we all need to escape from the pressures of a hectic life, to a haven of peace and security.

One way is to imagine and enter your spiritual garden. It can be real or imaginary, a garden that you have visited or a garden you have created in your mind.

You can choose the season and the setting. It could for example, be spring-time with signs of delicate new growth everywhere, or summer-time with an abundance of bright colored flowers.

Your spiritual garden may feature a cascading waterfall, or a babbling brook with crystal clear water.

Can your hear the sweet sound of bird song? Of the trickling water? Of the leaves on the trees as they rustle in the breeze?

Taste a fruit from a nearby tree, cup your hands and drink the sweet fresh water from the stream.

This is your spiritual garden, a healing sanctuary, a safe place where you can be at peace, relax, and refresh your mind body and soul.

Inspiration, Meditation, Dedication, is the title of a charming little verse by Helen Steiner Rice. I think it makes for a lovely reminder to print out on to small cards and place them strategically around your home and office, and maybe slip one into your purse, pocket or wallet.

    Inspiration, Meditation, Dedication
    Brighten your day
    And lighten your way,
    Lessen your cares
    With daily prayers,
    Quiet your mind
    And leave tension behind
    And find inspiration
    In “hushed meditation.”
